     With By My Tree…, Eric Bourdon invites us into a world that is at once playful, poetic and wonderfully alive. On the canvas, shapes seem to have invented themselves: a whimsical character with enormous eyes, a tree transformed into a companion, a tiny winged creature and a vibrant landscape of colours come together in a scene where imagination gently takes over from reality.


     The strength of this painting lies first and foremost in its free and spontaneous line, which retains something of a drawing unfolding before our eyes. In Eric Bourdon’s work, drawing grows through improvisation: a few lines, a curve, a shape in search of itself — and gradually, characters begin to appear and take on a life of their own. This way of creating leaves an essential place for chance, intuition and discovery.


     Here, bold colours — luminous yellows, vivid greens, deep blues, pinks and oranges — give the scene an almost childlike energy, without ever becoming naive. The large blue eyes immediately draw us in, like two windows opening onto an inner world. Around them, small graphic motifs, arabesques and unexpected details invite the eye to linger, to look again, and to imagine its own story.


     The title, By My Tree…, adds a more intimate dimension to this joyful fantasy. It suggests the idea of a familiar and protective place, somewhere we return to in order to rediscover something essential: a little freedom, a sense of wonder, a moment of daydreaming.
